Studiocanal’s fledgling genre imprint, Sixth Dimension, has snagged global rights to reimagine the notorious 1984 slasher Silent Night, Deadly Night. This marks the label’s first major move since its launch earlier this year.
The newly minted division, which debuted in March 2024, was created to champion edgy horror, thriller, sci-fi, and action films. It is led by Jed Benedict, a veteran Studiocanal UK executive. As a result, the label has access to the studio’s sprawling catalog of 9,000 titles. In addition, it will handle development, production, acquisitions, and distribution across its slate.
For this particular project, director Sean Byrne is helming the reboot. It is set to roll cameras this spring with a late 2025 theatrical bow in mind. Cineverse will manage the North American release and oversee sales in that territory. Meanwhile, Studiocanal is handling the rest of the globe—including the UK, France, Germany, and Australia. The studio plans to shop the film at the European Film Market in Berlin.
The move signals Sixth Dimension’s ambitions to corner the market on cult horror revivals. It is positioning itself as a European counterweight to American genre specialists like Screen Gems. The original film, directed by Charles E. Sellier Jr., became a controversial holiday horror staple. It has maintained a devoted following for decades.
