AMC is taking its supernatural drama “Mayfair Witches” in a bold new direction. The network has released a first look at Season 3, which will uproot the series from New Orleans and plant it squarely in Salem, Massachusetts—a move that promises to deepen the show’s magical mythology and introduce viewers to previously unexplored witching families.
The shift marks a significant creative reset for the Anne Rice adaptation, which stars Alexandra Daddario as protagonist Rowan Fielding. Rather than rehashing the familiar bayou setting, the show will mine Salem’s infamous historical legacy of witchcraft and the notorious trials that defined American folklore.
Driving that creative overhaul is Thomas Schnauz, an Emmy-winning writer and producer best known for his work on “Breaking Bad” and “Better Call Saul,” who is joining the series as co-showrunner alongside returning executive producer Esta Spalding. Together, the pair aims to expand the witch-centric universe while weaving in darker mysteries and previously unknown magical bloodlines tied to Rice’s expanding fictional cosmos.
Daddario is expected to return alongside fellow cast members Harry Hamlin, Tongayi Chirisa, and Alyssa Jirrels, though additional casting moves are likely to be announced as production moves forward.
The Salem pivot reflects AMC’s broader commitment to the Anne Rice Immortal Universe, which includes the critically acclaimed “Interview with the Vampire” and several other projects in development. The franchise has proven a streaming draw for AMC+, solidifying the network’s willingness to invest heavily in Rice adaptations.
