After the success of Obsession, filmmaker Curry Barker is back with a new horror-comedy. Anything But Ghosts will hit theaters on May 7, 2027, with Focus Features handling the release.
The film marks Barker’s follow-up to his breakout 2026 hit. However, this time, he is taking a very different approach. Instead of repeating the formula behind Obsession, Barker is diving into buddy-comedy territory while keeping the scares and disturbing moments intact.
What’s the Story About?
At the center of Anything But Ghosts are two wannabe ghost hunters. Barker and his longtime collaborator Cooper Tomlinson play the duo.
Initially, they’re chasing internet fame and viral moments. However, their paranormal investigation quickly takes a terrifying turn.
Soon, they encounter something genuinely supernatural. As a result, their hunt for clicks becomes a desperate fight for survival.
The setup also gives Barker plenty of room for comedy. At the same time, it allows him to create genuine tension through characters who are completely out of their depth.
A Star-Studded Cast
Barker and Tomlinson lead the cast. However, they are joined by several familiar faces.
Bryce Dallas Howard, known for the Jurassic World franchise, is part of the ensemble. Aaron Paul, best known for Breaking Bad, also stars.
Meanwhile, Violet McGraw brings strong horror credentials to the project. She has appeared in The Haunting of Hill House, Doctor Sleep and the M3GAN franchise.
Chris Reinacher is also part of the cast.
With such a diverse lineup, the movie has plenty of talent both in front of and behind the camera.
Focus Features and Blumhouse Back the Film
The project also has major genre players behind it.
Anything But Ghosts comes from Focus Features and Blumhouse-Atomic Monster. Jason Blum, Roy Lee and Steven Schneider are among the producers attached to the movie.
That support is significant. After all, the same production ecosystem backed Barker’s Obsession.
Now, Barker gets the opportunity to build on that momentum with a much bigger project.
How It’s Different From ‘Obsession’
Barker has made it clear that Anything But Ghosts won’t simply recreate Obsession.
Instead, the new film leans more heavily into buddy-comedy elements. Nevertheless, horror remains at its core.
That change also gives Barker the chance to explore a different side of his filmmaking style. Rather than relying on the same formula, he is mixing supernatural horror with comedy and character-driven chaos.
As a result, audiences can expect a film with a different tone while still retaining Barker’s interest in unsettling genre storytelling.

For now, there is no official trailer for Anything But Ghosts.
However, that could change as the May 2027 release date gets closer. More footage, promotional material and story details are likely to arrive in the months ahead.
Until then, the cast and creative team are already creating plenty of interest.
