Big Mistakes Review: Dan Levy’s Netflix Hit

Big Mistakes is an eight-episode Netflix crime comedy that started on April 9, 2026. Dan Levy stars in and co-created it. Nicky (Levy) and Morgan (Taylor Ortega) are siblings who get blackmailed into joining organized crime after a robbery goes wrong for their dying grandmother. Their crazy “fail upwards” behavior drives the story while their family is falling apart.

The show has “plenty of mayhem” in crazy crime scenes, but it also says that it has “too little logic or heart.” It talks about how Levy’s story went from Schitt’s Creek’s redemption arcs to a darker family falling apart. The review says that even though it has a lot of funny potential, it doesn’t have enough logic or emotional depth.

Laurie Metcalf is great as Linda, the head of the family, who has to deal with both grief and a political campaign. Ortega makes her first big role as Morgan, who is impulsive. Jack Innanen plays Max, Abby Quinn plays Natalie, and Elizabeth Perkins and Boran Kuzum are also in supporting roles. Levy’s Nicky, a gay pastor, is the main character in the story about two brothers.

Big Mistakes is the opposite of Schitt’s Creek because it shows how trauma can affect people for generations without giving them a chance to heal. It starts with a scene of a hospital deathbed fight. Siblings act selfishly about their grandmother’s illness, which leads to criminal blackmail. The show mixes crime loyalty with family chaos to make dark humor.

The show was made in New Jersey as part of Levy’s deal with Netflix. It promises to keep making dysfunctional seasons. Early reviews point out its odd-couple comedy legs, but critics like THR question how emotional it is. Stream now for Levy’s brave return after Schitt’s Creek.
