Cristian Mungiu has claimed his second Palme d’Or at the Cannes Film Festival, this time for his drama *Fjord*, which stars Norwegian actress Renate Reinsve and Hollywood actor Sebastian Stan. The film, set in a small Norwegian village, follows a married couple as their relocation sparks escalating tension within their community and triggers a troubling family crisis.
The win marks a triumphant moment for the Romanian filmmaker, who previously earned the festival’s top honor for *4 Months, 3 Weeks and 2 Days*. *Fjord* earned the jury’s recognition at the 79th edition of the prestigious festival, which wrapped up this week with recognition for numerous acclaimed films and standout performances.
The victory solidifies Mungiu’s standing as one of contemporary cinema’s most celebrated directors and underscores the continued impact of Eastern European filmmakers on the global stage.
