Courtney Love Opens Up About Near-Fatal 2019 Health Crisis

Courtney Love is speaking publicly for the first time about a harrowing health scare that nearly claimed her life. The 62-year-old Hole frontwoman revealed in an Instagram video that doctors warned her she was dying after she fell seriously ill during a 2019 trip to England.

“I almost died,” Love said, describing how her condition deteriorated rapidly. She lost all her hair and her weight plummeted to around 100 pounds as she moved between hospitals. At one point, physicians told her the prognosis was dire a prediction she initially refused to accept.

Love painted a vivid picture of the sudden onset of her illness, recalling how everything fell apart almost immediately after arriving in England.

“My body just exploded,” she explained, though she stopped short of naming the specific condition that triggered the crisis. The ordeal sent her in and out of hospitals repeatedly, leaving visible physical scars including dramatic weight loss and complete hair loss.

Against the odds, Love pulled through. She’s now healthy, but deliberately kept the experience under wraps at the time.

“I wasn’t public about being sick,” she noted, making clear she wanted to avoid turning her private battle into tabloid fodder.

Rather than abandon her music during recovery, Love channeled the trauma into her work. Much of her new album was written and recorded while she was bedridden or recuperating, fueled by the belief that this might be her final project.

The finished record her first with Hole since 2010’s *Nobody’s Daughter* — marks a significant return for the rock icon. Now Love is figuring out how to release it to the world.

Love expressed a burning desire to get back on stage and tour again. While she hasn’t announced official dates for either an album release or tour, her recent comments suggest both are in the works.
