CBS’ new vampire sitcom, Eternally Yours, brings a fresh supernatural concept to television. However, despite its promising story and talented cast, the comedy has received mixed reviews from critics.
CBS has introduced Eternally Yours, a supernatural comedy from Ghosts creators Joe Port and Joe Wiseman. The series follows Charles and Liz, a vampire couple struggling to keep their marriage exciting after 500 years together.
The concept offers plenty of room for humor. However, early reviews suggest the show fails to make full use of its unusual premise.
A Promising Vampire Comedy With Mixed Reviews
Eternally Yours explores the challenges of an immortal marriage. Charles and Liz have spent five centuries together, but their relationship has lost its spark.
While the idea sounds entertaining, critics have questioned its execution. Some believe the series lacks fresh jokes and strong storytelling.
In particular, The Hollywood Reporter described the comedy as “severely anemic.” The review also criticized its pacing and lack of originality.
However, not every reaction has been negative. Other reviewers have praised the cast’s chemistry and the show’s unusual family dynamics.
A Human Boyfriend Creates New Problems
The story takes an interesting turn when Charles and Liz’s daughter, Emma, introduces her human boyfriend, Max, to the family.
Naturally, his arrival creates unexpected problems. The vampire family must now protect its supernatural secret while dealing with ordinary relationship challenges.
Moreover, Max’s presence brings fresh tension into the household. His relationship with Emma also highlights the differences between human and vampire life.
As a result, the series combines family drama, romance, and supernatural humor.
Ed Weeks and Allegra Edwards Lead the Cast
Ed Weeks and Allegra Edwards play Charles and Liz, the vampire couple at the center of the story.
Meanwhile, Jaren Lewison and Helen J Shen portray Max and Emma. Their younger relationship offers a contrast to the older couple’s centuries-long marriage.
The show uses these different relationships to create comedic situations. However, its success depends on how effectively the writers develop the characters.
Can Eternally Yours Offer Something New?
Vampire comedies are not new to television. Shows such as What We Do in the Shadows have already proved that supernatural characters can deliver memorable humor.
However, Eternally Yours takes a different approach. Instead of focusing on dark comedy, it explores marriage, family problems, and everyday relationships.
This lighter tone could attract viewers who enjoy traditional sitcoms. Nevertheless, it also creates a challenge.
The writers must ensure that the supernatural characters remain interesting. Otherwise, the series risks becoming another ordinary family comedy.
Will Eternally Yours Improve After Its Debut?
Despite its mixed reviews, Eternally Yours still has room to grow. Its unusual premise and talented cast provide a strong foundation.
Furthermore, future episodes could explore deeper family conflicts and new supernatural situations. Stronger writing may also help the series develop its own identity.
For now, however, critics remain divided over whether the comedy can deliver lasting entertainment.
Where to Watch Eternally Yours
Eternally Yours airs Thursdays at 8:30 p.m. on CBS. Episodes are also available to stream on Paramount+.
Although its debut has received mixed reactions, the series could still find its audience as the season continues.
Will Eternally Yours become CBS’ next supernatural comedy hit, or will its promising concept fall flat? Share your thoughts in the comments!
