When Ghanshyam Yede could not join the Indian Army because of physical challenges, he refused to let that disappointment define his life. Instead, he found another way to honour the people who serve the nation.
That journey has now taken shape as Fauji, an upcoming Marathi film rooted in patriotism, sacrifice and resilience. However, the story behind the film is almost as powerful as the story it aims to tell.
From NCC Cadet to Filmmaker
Yede’s connection with the armed forces began during his college years. Through the National Cadet Corps (NCC), he experienced discipline, commitment and the spirit of national service.
However, physical limitations prevented him from pursuing a career in the Army. Even so, his admiration for soldiers only became stronger.
Over time, one thought stayed with him. He wanted ordinary families to understand the courage, sacrifices and emotional struggles behind the uniform.
That thought eventually became Fauji.
Turning a Dream Into a Film
Bringing that vision to the big screen was anything but easy. In fact, the making of Fauji became a battle of its own.
First came demonetisation, which created serious financial challenges. Then, the COVID-19 pandemic brought the entertainment industry to a standstill.
Despite these setbacks, Yede continued to push forward. Moreover, he faced growing financial pressure while trying to keep the ambitious project alive.
Two Friends, One Vision
A major turning point came when Yede met Suhas Gargade. The two came from modest backgrounds, but they shared a strong desire to create something meaningful.
Together, they worked tirelessly to arrange funding. They approached banks, credit societies and private lenders to support the production.
Slowly, their dream began taking shape.
Along the way, several well-wishers also extended their support. Their encouragement helped the team continue despite one obstacle after another.
Tragedy Strikes Before Completion
Just when Fauji was approaching completion, tragedy struck.
Suhas Gargade died in an unfortunate accident. His death left Yede facing both an emotional loss and a major challenge for the film.
The project was pushed into uncertainty. Nevertheless, Yede decided that his friend’s dream would not end there.
He took an extraordinary step. He mortgaged his house and land to keep the film moving.
Furthermore, Yede brought Suhas’s younger brother, Mayur Gargade, into the project. The decision became a way to honour his late friend and fulfil the promise they had shared.
Nath Vishwanath Saheb Offers Crucial Support
At a critical stage, Nath Vishwanath Saheb stepped forward to support Fauji. Yede considers him a father figure, making his guidance especially important.
His encouragement gave the project fresh strength. Along with him, co-producer Mrs Swapnaja Vishwanath also supported the film.
As a result, the team was able to move closer to completing the project.
However, another major challenge was waiting.
A Health Crisis Changes the Moment
After Fauji cleared the censor process, its release date was finalised. Yet, just before the release, Nath Vishwanath Saheb faced a life-threatening health crisis.
In a remarkable turn of events, his daughter donated a part of her own body to help save his life.
Despite the difficult circumstances, the release date remained unchanged, in keeping with Vishwanath Saheb’s wishes.
At that point, the film’s success became secondary. Everyone’s focus was on his recovery.
Still, Yede remained hopeful. He believed that if Saheb survived, there would be many more opportunities to create films together.
Today, that hope has become reality.
Sudhirdada Paataskar Backs the Film
Meanwhile, another important source of support came from Eklavya Pratishthan, with Sudhirdada Paataskar serving as the presenter.
After watching Fauji, Paataskar was reportedly impressed by Yede’s patriotism, simplicity and sincerity.
He believed the story deserved to reach audiences across households. Therefore, he pledged his support to the project.
His backing gave Fauji another major push. Consequently, the film gained fresh momentum as it moved towards its audience.
A Strong Ensemble Adds to the Buzz
The film features a promising ensemble of actors.
The cast includes Saurabh Gokhale, Shahbaz Khan, Prajakta Gaikwad, Tinu Verma, Sanjay Khapre, Nagesh Bhosale, Hansraj Jagtap, Ashwini Kasar and Ghanshyam Yede.
With such a diverse cast, Fauji brings together performers from different backgrounds. More importantly, the film aims to keep its focus on the human side of military life.
Instead of presenting soldiers only through action and heroism, the story seeks to explore their emotions, struggles and sacrifices.

Now, Fauji stands as the result of that determination.
