The three will film episodes from a studio in New York. “The Rest Is Football” is currently airing three episodes a week. During the World Cup, it will stream every day on Netflix, thanks to Goalhanger. Lineker said it was a “fantastic opportunity” to talk about football around the world with “analysis, honesty, and a lot of laughs” from New York City. The show will include reports from England’s training camp and fan zones to give viewers a more in-depth look.
The deal makes sense because Netflix has already bought the rights to show the FIFA Women’s World Cup in the US in 2027 and in Canada in 2031. This shows that the company is investing more in sports. Lineker’s Goalhanger made this video podcast to help Netflix compete with YouTube by teaming up with services like Spotify. It comes after Lineker left Match of the Day on the BBC after 26 years.
