‘Godzilla Minus Zero’ Heading to New York Film Festival for World Premiere

Toho has officially announced that ‘Godzilla Minus Zero’ will have its world premiere at the 2026 New York Film Festival before hitting theaters globally. The news marks a significant moment for director ‘Takashi Yamazaki’, whose previous film ‘Godzilla Minus One’ became an international sensation and won the Academy Award for Best Visual Effects.

The festival screening will give audiences their first look at the latest kaiju chapter ahead of the film’s theatrical rollout.

Choosing the New York Film Festival—one of North America’s most esteemed venues—signals Toho’s confidence in the franchise’s worldwide appeal. The decision also underscores the growing clout of Japanese blockbuster cinema on the global stage, particularly after ‘Godzilla Minus One’ broke through with both critics and audiences.

Yamazaki is back as director, writer, and visual effects supervisor for the sequel. The film is set in 1949, two years after the original, with the Shikishima family facing a more devastating version of Godzilla. Early reports suggest the movie will balance emotional depth with even more spectacular destruction sequences.
