Havells mYOUsic Empowers Dumka’s Grassroots Music Talent

India’s independent music movement is reaching smaller cities. Havells mYOUsic is ensuring talented artists from places like Dumka are part of that journey. The platform recently hosted its first-ever event in the Jharkhand city, bringing together more than 300 musicians and music enthusiasts for a day of learning, mentorship, and collaboration.

Held on July 12 at the Convention Centre in Dumka, the event became one of the region’s biggest grassroots music gatherings. More importantly, it marked another milestone in Havells India’s mission to discover, nurture, and empower original talent beyond India’s metro cities.

More Than Just a Music Competition

Unlike traditional talent contests, Havells mYOUsic focuses on long-term artist development. Instead of simply selecting winners, it offers aspiring musicians mentorship, industry exposure, and opportunities to sharpen their creative skills.

The Dumka chapter followed successful editions in Delhi and Indore. As a result, the initiative has now expanded into Jharkhand, opening new doors for artists who rarely get access to professional platforms.

For many participants, this was their first opportunity to perform before industry experts. Consequently, the event became less about competition and more about creativity, collaboration, and community.

Dumka’s Local Music Scene Shines

The event celebrated the rich musical identity of Jharkhand. Local performers, including MrTribe, Blaze, Alvin Rozario, Francis Xalxo, Raju Soren, Tom Murmu, and Leonard Hansda, showcased original music that reflected the region’s diverse sound and culture.

Meanwhile, an open mic session gave emerging artists the chance to perform their original compositions. It also allowed them to interact with fellow musicians, mentors, and an enthusiastic audience. Above all, the focus remained on encouraging individuality rather than rivalry.

Industry Experts Shared Real-World Insights

The programme also featured interactive sessions with experienced music professionals.

Acclaimed lyricist Geet Sagar spoke about songwriting and storytelling. Similarly, musician and educator Vasav Vashisht encouraged artists to build authentic musical identities.

Meanwhile, music producer Jatin Bisht shared practical production techniques. In addition, Rohith Sobti, Curator and Co-Founder of The Shakti Collective, explained how independent musicians can build sustainable careers in today’s evolving music industry.

Rather than offering theory alone, these sessions delivered practical advice that artists could immediately apply to their creative journeys.

Growing Numbers Reflect Growing Impact

The success of Havells mYOUsic continues to grow with every edition.

So far, the initiative has attracted more than 3,000 registrations and conducted over 850 on-ground auditions across Delhi, Indore, and Dumka.

These numbers clearly highlight one reality. Outstanding musical talent exists across India, including in smaller towns. However, many artists still lack access to industry networks, mentorship, and meaningful opportunities.

What’s Next for Selected Artists?

The journey doesn’t end with the auditions.

Selected participants will now move into the next stage of the programme. They will receive structured mentorship, attend specialised bootcamps, and gain opportunities to create original music along with professionally produced audio-visual content.

As a result, Havells mYOUsic offers much more than a one-day event. Instead, it invests in artists’ long-term creative and professional growth.

Havells Reaffirms Its Commitment

Speaking about the initiative, Mukesh Kumar Jain, Vice President, Havells India, said the overwhelming response in Dumka reinforced the company’s belief that extraordinary talent exists in every corner of the country.

He added that Havells remains committed to creating meaningful opportunities where independent musicians can be discovered, nurtured, and encouraged to grow.

Why Initiatives Like This Matter

India’s independent music scene has expanded rapidly in recent years. Thanks to digital streaming platforms, discovering new artists has become easier than ever.

However, musicians from smaller cities continue to face several challenges. Limited access to professional mentors, recording facilities, and industry connections often prevents talented artists from reaching larger audiences.

This is exactly where initiatives like Havells mYOUsic make a difference. By combining mentorship, education, collaboration, and career development, the platform helps bridge the gap between talent and opportunity.

A Strong Future for Independent Music

With every new city, Havells mYOUsic continues to strengthen its nationwide community of independent musicians.

Furthermore, each edition proves that great talent is not limited to major entertainment hubs. Instead, it exists in every corner of India—waiting for the right platform to be discovered.

The Dumka chapter successfully demonstrated that when artists are given guidance, encouragement, and opportunities, they can confidently take the next step toward building lasting careers in music.
