Jacob Chase to Direct Horror Movie ‘Sleepover’ for Blumhouse and Atomic Monster

Jacob Chase is jumping back into the horror game. The filmmaker, fresh off directing ‘Insidious: Out of the Further’, has signed on to helm ‘Sleepover’, a new feature from horror heavyweights Blumhouse and Atomic Monster that Universal Pictures will distribute.

Chase will direct from a screenplay he co-wrote with Bryce McGuire, the filmmaker behind ‘Night Swim’. The project is based on McGuire’s original short story and has been billed as a quintessential “sleepover nightmare.” Jason Blum is producing, with Chase, McGuire and Bea Sequeira serving as executive producers.

While the studio is keeping plot specifics under wraps, the title and description suggest the film will transform the seemingly innocent childhood experience of a sleepover into something genuinely terrifying.

This latest project marks another collaboration between Chase and the horror powerhouses behind the ‘Insidious’ franchise. The announcement arrives just as Chase’s latest film, ‘Insidious: Out of the Further’, hits theaters, continuing the franchise’s 16-year legacy and its exploration of the supernatural realm known as the Further.

With ‘Sleepover’, Chase is stepping away from an established franchise to develop an original horror concept, giving him room to craft a new nightmare alongside Blumhouse and Atomic Monster.

Universal has scheduled the film for theatrical release on October 8, 2027. The date was previously reserved for an untitled Blumhouse-Atomic Monster project. The movie will become another original horror title in the studios’ expanding slate as Blumhouse and Atomic Monster continue building their partnership with Universal.

For now, casting and specific story details remain under wraps, though Chase and McGuire’s track records in horror suggest audiences should expect something worth the wait.
