Janet Yang Takes Helm of Committee of 100 as Board Chair

Janet Yang, the groundbreaking former president of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, has been named chair of the Committee of 100’s board, marking the latest chapter in her influential career spanning Hollywood and cultural advocacy.

Yang, a renowned film producer whose credits include The Joy Luck Club, The People vs. Larry Flynt, and Over the Moon, will lead the prestigious nonprofit organization as it works to advance the interests of Chinese Americans and strengthen U.S.-China relations.

“It’s an opportunity to build meaningful connections between our communities,” Yang said of her new role, underscoring the importance of dialogue and mutual understanding amid mounting global tensions.

The appointment represents another significant achievement for Yang, who made history as the first Asian American to serve as Academy president, holding the position for three consecutive terms from 2022 to 2025.

The Committee of 100, established in 1990, brings together prominent Chinese Americans from business, government, academia, science, and the arts. The organization has long focused on advocating for its community while promoting constructive ties between the two nations.

Yang’s involvement with the group comes as she continues to champion Asian American representation in media and beyond. She co-founded Gold House and serves on multiple cultural boards dedicated to creating opportunities for underrepresented communities.
