Jennifer Esposito, who is best known for her role in Blue Bloods, posted a sad Instagram video in which she said she had to leave her home, which she had mortgaged to pay for her first movie as a director, Fresh Kills. The actress, writer, producer, and director talked about the personal sacrifices she made for the 2023 mafia drama set in Staten Island in the 1980s, stressing that some people in the industry didn’t help her.
Fresh Kills is about two sisters, Rose (Bader) and Connie (Odessa A’zion), who have to deal with family issues while their father, Domenick Lombardozzi, rises in the mafia. Esposito plays their mother, who is trying to keep the family together. Annabella Sciorra is in the cast, and the movie got a 90% rating on Rotten Tomatoes after it came out in theaters. It premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival.
Esposito said she would “do it again” even though she had to deal with a difficult producer, COVID-related production problems, and strikes. This shows how art can bring people together. In her Instagram bio, she asked people to support her next project, “Mary Rides the F Train,” which she said was kind, funny, and timely.
The post got a lot of support, and fans found out that they could now rent Fresh Kills on Apple TV and Amazon Prime. Esposito’s story is an inspiration for independent filmmakers who are willing to risk everything to make their vision come true.
