Jon M. Chu Signs First-Look Deal with Paramount After Wicked Success
Jon M. Chu

Jon M. Chu, director of Broadway hits “Wicked” and “Wicked: For Good,” signed a multi-year first-look deal with Paramount Pictures and Paramount Television Studios. Starting January 2, 2026, Chu’s Electric Somewhere will base on the Paramount lot for three years. They will collaborate with executives like Dana Goldberg, Josh Greenstein, Don Granger, and Matt Thunell on films and TV. This shifts from his prior Warner Bros. Discovery deal. It aligns with Paramount’s Skydance Media-led push for stronger Hollywood presence via high-profile content.

“Wicked: For Good” set records: biggest global opening for a Broadway movie and 2025’s second-largest domestic launch. The first “Wicked” earned over $756 million worldwide, drew critical praise, and snagged multiple Oscar nods. Chu also helmed “Crazy Rich Asians,” boosting Asian American stories in Hollywood. He has upcoming projects: Warner Bros.’ live-action Hot Wheels, Universal’s Britney Spears biopic, and a Dr. Seuss animated adaptation.

Paramount grabbed Chu to hit 15-20 films yearly. It mirrors deals with Will Smith, Duffer Brothers, and James Mangold under Skydance. Chu’s musicals and cultural hits fuel Paramount’s top-studio ambitions.

This deal boosts Paramount in Hollywood. It delivers star-filled movies and TV. It extends Chu’s innovative, box-office-winning legacy.
