Lionel Richie Ends Concert Early After Feeling Ill During Opening Night of Tour

Music icon Lionel Richie cut short the opening night of his “Sing Along All Night Long” tour after falling ill during a concert in St. Paul, Minnesota, on June 24.

The 77-year-old singer took the stage at Grand Casino Arena alongside legendary band Earth, Wind & Fire but began feeling unwell about 55 minutes into the show. While performing his hit song “Dancing on the Ceiling,” Richie appeared dizzy and sat down on stage, continuing to sing as fans watched with concern. Attendees and videos shared online showed the Grammy winner joking with the crowd as he explained that dizziness had affected him.

Despite the health scare, Richie pushed forward with the performance. He later sat at the piano and sang “Three Times a Lady” before announcing an unexpected intermission. While fans waited for news, his band kept the audience entertained.

After an extended delay, saxophonist Dino Soldo informed concertgoers that Richie would not return to the stage. The announcement abruptly ended the opening-night show and heightened concerns about the singer’s health.

Authorities later confirmed that emergency personnel transported an adult male from the arena to a nearby hospital. Several media outlets reported that Richie underwent a precautionary medical evaluation, although his representatives have yet to release an official update on his condition.

Earth, Wind & Fire drummer John Paris said Richie showed no signs of illness before the concert began. While some reports pointed to dehydration as a possible cause of the incident, doctors have not released an official diagnosis.

The Minnesota performance launched Richie’s 26-date North American tour. Before taking the stage, the singer shared rehearsal photos on social media and thanked his crew and band for helping prepare the production.
