On March 18, CPH:DOX 2026 will have a special night for British documentarian Louis Theroux, with a screening of his new movie The Settlers. This is Theroux’s first time at the Copenhagen festival, and after the screening, people can talk to him in depth. This new addition makes the March 11–22 festival even more exciting. It’s one of Europe’s best documentary festivals, with more than 150,000 people attending in recent years.

The Settlers, directed by Joshua Baker, looks at the growing group of religious-nationalist Israeli settlers in the occupied West Bank, which is against international law. Theroux goes back to the area 14 years after his first book and talks to important people like settler leader Daniella Weiss and Palestinians like activist Issa Amro, whose lives are directly affected. The movie also shows how settlers want to move into Gaza even though there are still wars going on.
The festival adds more big names to its lineup, including the Danish premiere of Merckx – Race of a Champion, which is a tribute to cycling legend Eddy Merckx. Organizers recently announced A World Gone Mad – The War Diaries of Astrid Lindgren, which will focus on the author’s early years. Full programming starts in February, promising a wide range of perspectives on world problems, from science to the ridiculous.
