Michael B. Jordan Reacts to David Jonsson’s Black Panther Casting

Michael B. Jordan has welcomed David Jonsson to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, expressing excitement over the British actor’s casting as the new Black Panther and backing him to lead the franchise into its next era.

Jordan, who played the fan-favorite villain Erik Killmonger in Black Panther (2018), praised Jonsson after Marvel Studios announced that the Industry and Alien: Romulus star will portray the adult Prince T’Challa in Black Panther 3. Marvel revealed the casting during its Hall H presentation at San Diego Comic-Con.

Jordan called Jonsson a gifted actor who will bring a fresh perspective to the iconic superhero role. He also praised director Ryan Coogler, expressing confidence in the filmmaker’s ability to continue the emotional storytelling that has defined the Black Panther franchise.

In Black Panther 3, Jonsson will play Prince T’Challa II, the son of the late King T’Challa and Nakia. Marvel first introduced the character as a child in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever (2022) after the studio chose not to recast Chadwick Boseman’s T’Challa following the actor’s death in 2020.

The sequel will follow Prince T’Challa’s coming-of-age journey as he embraces the mantle of Black Panther and prepares to lead Wakanda into a new era.

Ryan Coogler will return to write and direct Black Panther 3, continuing the story he launched with the franchise’s first two films. Letitia Wright will reprise her role as Shuri, Winston Duke will return as M’Baku, and Academy Award winner Denzel Washington will make his debut in the franchise.

Jonsson has rapidly established himself as one of Britain’s most promising young actors through acclaimed performances in Industry, Rye Lane, and Alien: Romulus. His casting marks a major milestone in his career and signals Marvel Studios’ commitment to carrying forward the legacy of one of its most successful franchises.

Although Killmonger died in the original Black Panther, Jordan returned in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever for a memorable ancestral plane sequence. His enthusiastic endorsement of Jonsson has fueled fan excitement, with many viewers still hoping Killmonger could return in a future Marvel project.
