Microsoft has promised to invest $50 billion by the end of the decade to make AI more accessible in poorer countries. This is in response to growing worries about technology-driven inequalities.

The announcement shows that Microsoft wants to use AI infrastructure and tools in areas that don’t have them yet. This is to stop a “digital divide” where richer countries have more advanced technology. This decision fits with what was said at recent AI summits, such as India’s AI Impact Summit 2026, where leaders stressed the importance of innovation that includes everyone.

The India AI Impact Summit in New Delhi, which had more than 600 startups and speakers from around the world, shows how AI could change economies without causing mass job losses—only creating new ones. Microsoft’s promise is a response to worries that quickly adopting AI could make inequality worse. This is similar to what was said at the World Government Summit about fair digitization.
