Disney and ESPN are working together to make Monday Night Football a unique animated show based on Pixar’s Monsters, Inc. The “Toy Story Funday Football” follow-up, which will air next, will have famous characters like Sulley and Mike Wazowski. They will be playing football in a fun crossover between sports and animation.
This special “Monsters, Inc. Altcast” will air at the same time on ESPN, Disney Channel, and Disney+. It will recreate an NFL game inside Monstropolis. Player movements and gameplay stats will be turned into bright Pixar-style graphics using advanced motion capture and real-time animation. Mike and Sulley give funny commentary over animated versions of NFL players, so fans can expect the same Monsterverse energy.
ESPN says that this creative altcast wants to make Monday Night Football more appealing to families and younger viewers. It does so by combining the excitement of the NFL with the charm of Disney’s stories. The project builds on the network’s past successes with animated broadcasts. For example, the well-known Toy Story-themed game got a lot of attention on streaming and social media.
