A Little Homework: Marathi Theatre Classic
Shah even suggested Sheena check out the Marathi play Sangeet Dev Bhabhali. It’s a musical that dives into Avali’s devotion to Saint Tukaram. Shah thinks it could help her connect with the role on an even deeper level. And, of course, he’s looking forward to watching the film when it hits digital platforms.
Why Theatre Still Matters
The conversation then shifted to theatre, and Shah was crystal clear about his feelings. He believes the stage is where actors truly learn discipline, fire up their imaginations, and discover how to be authentic. In his words, theatre is the ultimate training ground where honesty trumps all the glitz and glamour. Naseeruddin Shah praises Sheena Chohan for her stage discipline.
Sheena’s Got a Theatre Background, Too!
Turns out, Sheena’s no stranger to the stage. She got her start with Padatik Performing Arts in Kolkata and then honed her skills under Arvind Gaur in Delhi for five years. She’s been in plays like A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Gandhi vs Ambedkar, and Ek Maamooli Aadmi. These experiences instilled in her a deep respect for the craft and the importance of discipline.
An Encouraging Boost
Sheena said Shah’s words were a real shot in the arm.
“Theatre gave me the foundation to approach roles truthfully. Hearing Naseer sir speak about its essence feels like a blessing. It strengthens my resolve to build characters that endure while staying true to my directors’ vision,” she explained.
