Natasha Lyonne talks about her next movie, “Bambo,” which she will write, direct, and produce. The story takes place in the 1980s and follows a boxing promoter from Brooklyn who is trying to get Don King-level fame while avoiding taxes, using cocaine, racing cars, and dealing with broken dreams and heartbreak. He brings his young daughter along. This is her second time directing a feature film, after “Uncanny Valley,” which was made with AI.
Lyonne makes movies with Max Ferguson under the Animal Pictures banner, and Craig Mazin and Sarah Sarandos work on Word Games. The main filming will start in the summer of 2026. The project builds on her work as a TV director on shows like “Poker Face,” “Russian Doll,” and others.
Lyonne, who is known for “Poker Face” and “Orange Is the New Black,” has made more movies since her 2017 short “Cabiria, Charity, Chastity.” Her first feature film, “Uncanny Valley,” mixes live-action and AI game elements. It sets the stage for “Bambo’s” gritty story.
