Netflix is taking its South Indian content strategy to the next level. 🎬🔥
The streaming giant has announced plans to bring roughly one new Tamil, Telugu or Malayalam film every week through the rest of 2026, giving audiences an even bigger selection of regional stories to discover.
The move comes after a strong run for South Indian cinema on the platform. Made in Korea recently made history as the first South Indian title to top Netflix’s Global Non-English Films chart, while also reaching the Top 10 in 54 countries worldwide. 🌍
The success has also highlighted the growing cultural impact of regional cinema, with lead actress Priyanka Mohan being named Honorary Ambassador for Korea Tourism following the film’s international reception.
And there’s plenty more ahead. Pyaar Prema Kalyanam is set to premiere on August 21, followed by highly anticipated titles featuring major stars including Ram Charan, Dhanush and Vijay Deverakonda.
Netflix is also expanding its Originals slate with projects such as Tamil series The Game and Telugu series Super Subbu, alongside theatrical blockbusters and independent stories.
The numbers make the strategy even more striking. South Indian films appeared on Netflix’s Global Top 10 Non-English Films list for 39 out of 52 weeks in 2025. Meanwhile, South Indian titles reached Top 10 lists in 59 countries outside India, up from 26 in 2024 and 17 in 2023.
For filmmakers, the growing reach offers a powerful new opportunity. For audiences, it means more Tamil, Telugu and Malayalam stories arriving on their screens every week.
South Indian cinema is no longer simply a regional powerhouse. It is becoming a major force in global entertainment. 🌎✨
