Oliver Jones Joins Amazon MGM as U.K. Scripted Senior Commissioner

Veteran television executive Oliver Jones is departing Apple TV+ after six years to take the helm of Amazon MGM Studios’ U.K. scripted programming division, according to industry sources.

In his new position as senior commissioner for U.K. scripted, Jones will oversee the streaming giant’s British original series portfolio and shape commissioning strategy across the region. He’ll report to Nicole Clemens, Amazon MGM’s president of television, as the company intensifies its bid to compete with Netflix, Apple TV+ and Disney+ for premium international content.

At Apple TV+, Jones helped develop some of the platform’s most acclaimed series. He championed “Masters of the Air,” the World War II drama featuring Austin Butler, and backed Alfonso Cuarón’s psychological thriller “Disclaimer,” both of which strengthened Apple’s reputation for high-end storytelling.

His fingerprints are also on other notable titles including “Sunny,” “Losing Alice,” “The New Look” and “Constellation.” Throughout his tenure, Jones worked across multiple territories, building relationships with international creators and developing cross-border co-productions that helped establish Apple’s global television strategy.

The hire underscores Amazon MGM’s commitment to expanding its U.K. scripted slate as part of a larger push into international programming. Jones will have broad responsibility for sourcing intellectual property, developing original series and cultivating relationships with British writers, showrunners and producers.

Industry observers expect him to prioritize premium dramas and limited series with distinctly British perspectives that can nonetheless appeal to global audiences on Prime Video—a formula Amazon has already proven with previous British co-productions.

Jones’ move is one of several recent executive relocations among major streamers as Apple, Amazon, Netflix and others scramble to secure top creative talent and greenlight the next generation of hits. With production budgets climbing and competition intensifying heading into 2026, studios are placing greater emphasis on experienced commissioners who can spot promising concepts early and guide them to completion.

For British production companies and independent creators, the appointment signals fresh opportunities to pitch projects to Amazon MGM—particularly those that fuse British storytelling sensibilities with international commercial appeal.
