Grammy-nominated rapper Rick Ross was arrested in Miami Beach this week after a woman he was living with reported an alleged domestic violence incident to police. The rapper, whose real name is William Roberts II, faces a felony charge of battery by strangulation and a misdemeanor battery charge.
Ross turned himself in to Miami Beach police early Thursday morning. He has since pleaded not guilty. Meanwhile, his attorneys, Steve Sadow and Bradley Horenstein, have denied the accusations and maintained his innocence.
The Alleged Incident
According to police reports, the alleged incident took place on August 28. However, the woman reportedly contacted authorities later.
The woman told police that an argument began after Ross questioned her about a social media post. She alleged that he accused her of being involved with another man.
The confrontation then allegedly became physical. She claimed Ross hit her several times, choked her, grabbed her by the hair and slammed her against a wall.
Police were also reportedly shown photographs. The woman said the images documented injuries connected to the alleged encounter.
However, the allegations have not been proven in court. Ross remains entitled to due process as the case moves forward.
Rick Ross Turns Himself In
Following the report, Ross surrendered to Miami Beach police early Thursday. He was then booked into the Miami-Dade County jail system.
He was later released after posting bond. As a result, the rapper is now preparing for the next stage of the legal proceedings.
His arraignment is scheduled for October 22. At that hearing, the case is expected to move forward through the court system.
Public Allegations Surface Before Arrest
The arrest also follows public allegations made by model and content creator Jazzma Kendrick.
In late September, Kendrick accused Ross of physical abuse in posts on Instagram. She also shared photographs that she claimed showed injuries from an alleged incident involving the rapper.
