Sagar Pictures Entertainment has officially unveiled Shrimad Bhagavatam, an ambitious seven-part cinematic franchise inspired by the revered Bhagavata Mahapurana. The announcement was made on GuruPurnima, marking the studio’s first large-scale theatrical venture.
Moreover, the project signals a new chapter for Indian mythological cinema. It aims to bring one of India’s greatest spiritual texts to the big screen through immersive storytelling, cinematic realism, and world-class visual effects.
A Grand Adaptation of the Bhagavata Mahapurana
The Bhagavata Mahapurana is one of the most revered texts in Sanatana literature. It comprises nearly 18,000 verses spread across twelve Skandas and narrates the life and teachings of Lord Krishna alongside the stories of Lord Mahavishnu’s many incarnations.
However, this adaptation goes far beyond previous screen versions. Instead of focusing on select episodes, the filmmakers plan to present the text in its authentic form through seven interconnected films.
Furthermore, the project draws inspiration from the traditional Bhagavata Saptaha, the seven-day recitation of the sacred text attended by millions of devotees across the world.

The films will explore his childhood and youth in Braja. They will also feature realistic cinematic interpretations of the Rasa Leela and the Gopi Gita, sequences that have rarely been portrayed on such a grand scale.
Additionally, audiences will witness several lesser-known events from Krishna’s life, offering a fresh perspective while preserving the text’s spiritual essence.
Iconic Avatars and Epic Events
The saga extends well beyond Lord Krishna’s journey.
It will bring to life several Poorna Avataras of Lord Mahavishnu, including Matsya, Varaha, Narasimha, Prithu, and Kapila.
Moreover, the films will recreate legendary events such as the Samudra Manthan and depict the rise of the Suryavansh and Chandravansh dynasties with large-format cinematic storytelling.

Meanwhile, the project is produced by Sagar Pictures Global. It is guided by Padma Bhushan awardee Sri M and mentored by Moti Sagar, Chairman of Sagar Pictures and co-director of the iconic Ramayan (1987).
