Sandra Bullock Opens Up About Inappropriate Audition Demands Early in Her Career

Sandra Bullock didn’t mince words when discussing what she faced as a struggling actress trying to break into Hollywood.

During a recent sit-down with Jennifer Aniston for Interview magazine, the Oscar winner recalled her early days in New York when she was working as a waitress and auditioning constantly and the uncomfortable situations she encountered along the way.

“I was in New York, I was a waitress, I was auditioning for every pervert that existed, asking me to drop my pants,” Bullock said bluntly.

But she made clear she had her limits. “I was like, ‘Nope, not the role for me,'” she added, explaining that she simply walked away from those situations rather than compromise her boundaries for a part.

Bullock’s candid remarks underscore a persistent problem in the entertainment industry: the exploitation of power dynamics during auditions, particularly for actors desperate to land their big break.

Though Bullock became a household name through romantic comedies like ‘While You Were Sleeping’, ‘Two Weeks Notice’, and ‘The Proposal’, she eventually set her sights on more dramatic material. Her role in the 2004 film ‘Crash’ which won Best Picture at the Academy Awards marked a deliberate shift in her career trajectory, allowing her to showcase her range beyond the rom-com genre.

Now, Bullock is returning to the screen in ‘Practical Magic 2’, reprising her role as Sally Owens nearly three decades after the original 1998 film, alongside Nicole Kidman.
