Selena Gomez and Wondermind Founders Hit With Federal Lawsuit Over Investor Fraud Claims

Selena Gomez, her mother Mandy Teefey and entrepreneur Daniella Pierson are now facing a federal lawsuit after investors accused them of misleading them about the financial health and future of their mental health startup, Wondermind.

The lawsuit was filed August 13th in Delaware federal court, with investors claiming they sank nearly $1.2 million into Wondermind based on an overly rosy picture of the company’s operations and prospects. The plaintiffs say they weren’t kept in the loop as the business ran into trouble and eventually fell apart.

Wondermind launched back in 2021 with Gomez, Teefey and Pierson at the helm, positioning itself as a platform for “mental fitness.” The startup quickly grabbed headlines thanks to Gomez’s high-profile involvement and carried a reported $95 million valuation during its fundraising push.

According to the lawsuit, Gomez was marketed as actively helping drive the company’s growth strategy and was expected to leverage her massive celebrity following to boost Wondermind. Investors were also told the company had plans for a mobile app and major corporate partnerships that never came to fruition.

The plaintiffs allege that Gomez ultimately dropped the ball on commitments made during fundraising talks. They’re also claiming Wondermind lacked the solid operational infrastructure they’d been led to believe it had.

The case includes charges of securities fraud, common-law fraud and breach of contract, with investors seeking to recoup their money plus legal costs and damages.

The legal battle comes after reports of serious internal problems at Wondermind surfaced in 2025.

Investors say they didn’t find out how bad things really were until a September 2025 report exposed major turmoil at the company. They claim Wondermind struggled with basic things like paying employees and vendors on time, but they were kept in the dark about these troubles.

Pierson, who departed Wondermind in 2023, has pushed back against allegations that she mishandled investor money and says she plans to present evidence clearing her name.

Gomez hasn’t made any public statements about the lawsuit, and her representatives haven’t responded to requests for comment.

This lawsuit marks another legal headache for Wondermind following years of financial and internal problems. Still, these remain allegations at this stage, and the court hasn’t ruled on who’s actually liable.

The case is sure to put the spotlight back on Wondermind’s business practices, its leadership, and the promises made to investors when they were pitching the company.
