In a recent interview, Sheridan said producers were pushing him hard to change Kate into a guy. He was like, “No way!” Therefore, when Taylor Sheridan knew the industry wanted a male lead because, you know, action thrillers are “supposed” to be about men, he resisted.
Sheridan stood his ground. He basically told them, “No Kate, no script!” It just shows how tough it can be for writers like him to protect strong female characters in Hollywood, especially considering Taylor Sheridan’s experiences.
“Sicario,” directed by Denis Villeneuve, was a huge hit, both with critics and at the box office. A lot of the film’s emotional impact came from Blunt’s amazing performance as Kate Macer. She really nailed the part of a good FBI agent thrown into this brutal drug war, appreciated by Taylor Sheridan.
Sheridan’s decision to stick with a female lead in such a tough genre was a bold move. It totally worked. Emily Blunt proved she could rock an action role. The movie helped change some minds in the industry about what women can do on screen, thanks to Taylor Sheridan.
