In the exclusive first-look images from Midi Z’s upcoming Asia-set crime thriller The Exiles, Sam Worthington and Taiwanese actress Ke-Xi Wu appear tense and deeply thoughtful. Midi Z directs his first English-language film. The cast stars Worthington alongside David Duchovny and Ke-Xi Wu in this currently filming production in Taipei, inspired by true events.
The Exiles tracks a desperate Westerner who pursues better opportunities in Asia, unleashing ambition, greed, rivalry, and pride that culminate in a shocking murder. A top-tier crew elevates production, featuring Oscar-nominated cinematographer Ed Lachman (Carol, The Virgin Suicides), editor Hank Corwin (The Big Short), and composer Lim Giong (The Assassin). Midi Z, celebrated for festival favorites Ice Poison and Nina Wu, draws from authentic Asian crime tales to weave love, exploitation, greed, fragility, darkness, and hope.
Sam Worthington (Avatar: Fire and Ash) portrays the driven expat, while David Duchovny (The X-Files) and frequent Midi Z collaborator Ke-Xi Wu take key supporting roles.
