Tiffany Haddish Pleads Guilty to Drunk Driving, Avoids More Prison Time

Comedian Tiffany Haddish entered a guilty plea Tuesday to a misdemeanor drunk-driving charge stemming from her 2022 arrest in Georgia, putting an end to a legal battle that has dragged on for more than four years.

Haddish appeared by video in Fayette County as her trial was about to begin. The plea deal spares her from additional jail time. She was sentenced to 12 months of probation and must undergo a substance abuse evaluation and stay away from drugs and alcohol. The actress received credit for time she had already served following her arrest.

The case dates back to January 14, 2022, when police in Peachtree City responded to a 911 call about a driver apparently asleep at the wheel of an SUV at a traffic light around 2:30 a.m. Officers found Haddish in a white Ford Explorer and arrested her. She was taken to the Fayette County Jail but released after a short stay.

The case was riddled with delays. In May, Haddish’s attorneys asked the judge to dismiss the charges, arguing the lengthy wait had violated her right to a speedy trial and harmed her career. The judge rejected the request, noting that Haddish’s legal team had contributed to some delays through requests for travel and scheduling accommodations.

This isn’t Haddish’s only recent legal trouble. She was arrested in Beverly Hills in November 2023 after police found her slumped over the steering wheel of a running vehicle. She later pleaded no contest to a vehicle code violation, with two misdemeanor DUI charges dropped.

Haddish became a household name after her 2017 breakout role in Girls Trip. She went on to appear in Night School, The Kitchen, and Like a Boss. The comedian won an Emmy in 2018 for her Saturday Night Live appearance and a Grammy for her comedy special Black Mitzvah.
