Tom Holland Names Owen Cooper as His Dream Spider-Man Successor

Tom Holland may still be swinging through the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but he’s already thinking about the future. In a recent interview, the actor revealed that if he ever hangs up the web-slinger suit, he has his eye on a rising star to take over: 16-year-old Owen Cooper.

“Owen Cooper would be awesome,” Holland said when asked who could eventually inherit the iconic role. He praised Cooper’s talent and rapid ascent in Hollywood, describing him as one of the industry’s most exciting new performers capable of carrying the Spider-Man legacy forward.

Cooper, best known for his breakout performance in the Netflix drama Adolescence, has quickly become one of the most talked-about young actors in the business. In an interesting full-circle moment, Cooper previously revealed that Holland’s work in The Impossible actually inspired him to pursue acting in the first place.

Holland, who returns as Peter Parker in Spider-Man: Brand New Day later this summer, spoke openly about wanting to stay connected to the franchise even after his time as Spider-Man ends. Drawing from the mentorship he received from Robert Downey Jr. during his early Marvel years, Holland said he’d love to guide whoever takes on the role next.

Rather than completely stepping away from the web-slinger universe, Holland indicated he hopes to remain involved as a producer and mentor. He expressed interest in helping launch the next chapter of Spider-Man stories, whether that involves another Peter Parker or alternative characters like Miles Morales, Spider-Gwen, or Spider-Woman.

The comments come as Marvel and Sony prepare to launch what executives are calling a fresh era for the character with Spider-Man: Brand New Day, which will serve as a new beginning following the events of Spider-Man: No Way Home.

While Holland remains attached to the franchise for now, his endorsement of Cooper is unlikely to quiet ongoing fan speculation about Spider-Man’s long-term future. Either way, Holland has made clear he wants to help shape whatever comes next.
