Yash Opens Up About Playing Ravana in Ramayana

The excitement around Ramayana continues to grow. Now, Yash has opened up about playing Ravana, offering fresh insights into one of mythology’s most iconic characters.

The Rocking Star, who plays Ravana and also produces the film under Monster Mind Creations, recently spoke about the role during Comic-Con. He shared that portraying Ravana was never about playing a conventional villain. Instead, it was about understanding the character’s emotions, motivations, and inner conflict.

As a result, his thoughtful perspective has sparked excitement among fans eagerly awaiting the epic.

Yash Explains Why Ramayana Remains Timeless

During the media interaction, Yash reflected on why the Ramayana continues to inspire audiences across generations.

According to him, every great story needs both good and evil. However, the Ramayana is much more than a battle between a hero and a villain.

Instead, it is the contrasting journeys of Lord Rama and Ravana that give the epic its lasting impact. While Lord Rama represents righteousness and humility, Ravana symbolizes intelligence and power that are eventually consumed by pride.

Therefore, Yash believes the story remains relevant even today.

The Striking Difference Between Rama and Ravana

Furthermore, Yash explained how the journeys of Lord Rama and Ravana move in completely opposite directions.

Lord Rama is born a king. However, he loses everything before earning back his honour through his values and actions.

Ravana, in contrast, begins with very little. He rises to immense power but eventually allows ego and revenge to lead him toward destruction.

Explaining this philosophy, Yash said:

“Lord Rama is somebody who is born as a king, but he goes into situations where he has to lose everything and then regain all his power through his behaviour and the kind of actions he takes. But Ravana starts with nothing, becomes powerful and then, sometimes, like they say, when you fight a demon, you end up becoming a bigger one. You have to be very careful with that.”

According to the actor, the message remains timeless because it reminds people that power without self-control can become destructive.

Ravana Is More Than Just a Villain, Says Yash

Meanwhile, Yash stressed that Ravana should never be viewed as a one-dimensional antagonist.

Instead, he described Ravana as one of mythology’s most accomplished and intelligent personalities.

The actor noted that Ravana mastered several arts, possessed extraordinary knowledge, and achieved unmatched power. Yet, despite all those strengths, he ultimately failed because he could not control his own ambitions.

For Yash, that contradiction is exactly what makes Ravana such a fascinating character.

Consequently, his goal was to portray the emotional and psychological depth behind Ravana’s decisions rather than simply presenting him as evil.

Understanding Ravana Was the Real Challenge

Preparing for such an iconic role naturally came with immense responsibility.

However, Yash revealed that he never wanted to reinvent Ravana. Instead, he focused on understanding the character’s mindset.

Throughout his preparation, one question remained central:

Why did Ravana make the choices he made?

Rather than concentrating on appearance or dramatic mannerisms, the actor explored the intentions behind Ravana’s actions.

He also credited director Nitesh Tiwari and the writing team for developing a nuanced interpretation rooted in the original epic.

As a result, Yash believes understanding Ravana’s emotional journey became the foundation of his performance.

A Childhood Bond With Ramayana

Interestingly, Yash’s connection with the Ramayana goes back to his childhood.

The actor revealed that it was probably the very first story he ever heard. His grandfather would often narrate tales from the epic, allowing him to imagine its legendary characters in his own way.

Those memories have stayed with him over the years.

Today, portraying Ravana feels deeply personal. More than just another role, it gives Yash an opportunity to revisit the stories that shaped his childhood and bring one of mythology’s most complex characters to life on the big screen.
