Alanis Morissette Sues Former Tour Manager Over Alleged Blackmail Campaign

Alanis Morissette has sued her former tour manager, Keren Urinov, accusing her of running what the singer describes as a “calculated blackmail campaign” to force her into a lucrative long-term employment deal.

Morissette filed the lawsuit after a dispute that began during her 2025 world tour. In court documents, the singer claims Urinov threatened to falsely link her to a drug-trafficking investigation unless she accepted the proposed employment agreement.

The dispute began after authorities detained Urinov at a U.K. airport during Morissette’s 2025 tour. Officials allegedly found marijuana and xylazine in her luggage. Urinov reportedly told authorities that the substances belonged to her. She later secured her release after presenting an Israeli medical marijuana license.

Morissette claims the situation took a more serious turn after the airport incident. According to her lawsuit, Urinov and her attorney sent a series of increasingly aggressive letters to the singer. Morissette alleges that the letters threatened to involve her in the airport investigation unless she accepted Urinov’s demands.

According to the lawsuit, Urinov demanded that Morissette sign a 15-year employment agreement. The proposed deal allegedly included compensation, raises and additional benefits. Morissette claims Urinov presented the agreement as a way to prevent authorities from receiving information about the airport incident. The singer rejected the demands.

Morissette now seeks more than $75,000 in damages. She has also brought claims for civil extortion, fraud and negligent misrepresentation. In addition, she has requested a jury trial. Urinov denies Morissette’s blackmail allegations and plans to defend herself in court.

Urinov has also filed her own lawsuit against Morissette in London’s King’s Bench Division. Details surrounding that case remain limited. The competing legal claims could force both sides to present their versions of the events surrounding the airport incident and the communications that followed.

The legal dispute creates an unexpected chapter in Morissette’s career. The singer has remained active more than three decades after Jagged Little Pill turned her into a global music star. Morissette continues to perform and record music. However, the lawsuit has now placed a behind-the-scenes dispute from her touring operation under intense scrutiny.

As the case moves forward, the court will have to examine whether Urinov’s alleged demands and communications amounted to unlawful extortion. For now, the allegations remain unproven, and both sides will have the opportunity to present their cases in court.
