‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ shows no signs of slowing down, cementing its position atop the North American box office for a sixth consecutive weekend while inching toward a record that has stood for over a decade.

The Sony and Marvel superhero blockbuster pulled in an estimated $18 million during the traditional three-day weekend, or roughly $23.3 million across the Labor Day four-day frame. Those numbers have pushed its domestic total to approximately $923 million, keeping rival films firmly in the rearview mirror.

‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ is now tantalizing close to dethroning ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ as the highest-grossing domestic film of all time on an unadjusted basis.

The 2015 Star Wars juggernaut holds the current record with $936.7 million. With Spider-Man sitting at $923 million, it needs only about $14 million more to claim the crown a gap industry analysts believe could close by next weekend.

If the superhero film crosses that finish line, it will cement its place in box-office history as the biggest domestic earner ever without inflation adjustments.

The film’s reach extends far beyond North America. ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ has already amassed more than $2.3 billion worldwide, positioning it among the most successful theatrical releases of all time.

Its international muscle has allowed it to surpass ‘Avatar: The Way of Water on the all-time global list. Only ‘Avatar’ and ‘Avengers: Endgame’ remain ahead of it globally an impressive feat given how deep the film is into its theatrical window.

Christopher Nolan’s ‘The Odyssey’ appears poised to maintain its second-place finish during its eighth weekend in release.

The Universal epic is projected to earn approximately $16.4 million over the four-day holiday weekend, bringing its domestic haul to around $588 million. The film also stars Tom Holland, making for an unusual dual box-office victory for the actor.

Labor Day proved relatively sparse for new theatrical releases.

Paramount’s ‘By Any Means’, directed by Elegance Bratton and starring Yahya Abdul-Mateen II and Mark Wahlberg, is expected to finish well behind the established frontrunners. The crime thriller, set in 1960s Mississippi, follows an FBI agent and a mob hitman investigating civil rights-era killings.

A24’s ‘Onslaught’, helmed by director Adam Wingard and starring Adria Arjona, has struggled even more, projected to earn just $2 million over the four-day period after opening to only $782,000 on Friday.

As summer winds down, ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ continues to defy expectations with its remarkable staying power. The film’s sixth consecutive No. 1 finish underscores its cultural dominance and box-office resilience.

The historic record now sits squarely in sight. Within days, Spider-Man could claim its place atop the all-time domestic box-office mountain.
