Brad Pitt Brings ‘Heart of the Beast’ to San Sebastian Film Festival

Brad Pitt showed up at the 2026 San Sebastian Film Festival this week to debut Heart of the Beast, his latest project with director David Ayer. The adventure thriller screened out of competition, with both Pitt and Ayer in attendance.

The film marks a reunion between the two more than a decade after they worked together on the critically acclaimed Fury. In Heart of the Beast, Pitt plays James Belmont, a former Special Forces officer who finds himself stranded in the Alaskan wilderness following a plane crash. His only ally is Odin, a retired combat dog. The two must battle the elements and find their way back to civilization.

It’s Pitt’s second time at the festival. He last appeared there in 2009, when he came to present Quentin Tarantino’s Inglourious Basterds. His arrival this time around drew crowds of eager fans hoping to catch a glimpse of the Hollywood star.

While at the festival, Pitt opened up about making Heart of the Beast and working with the dog that plays such a crucial role in the survival story. The bond between man and animal sits at the core of the film’s narrative.

This marks the second time Pitt has worked with Ayer, who helmed Fury back in 2014. Before that, Ayer directed films like End of Watch, Sabotage, and The Beekeeper.

Cameron Alexander penned the screenplay. Pitt is producing alongside Olivia Hamilton, Marty Bowen, and Ayer, with Damien Chazelle serving as an executive producer. J.K. Simmons and Anna Lambe round out the cast.

The film is heading to theaters soon. Paramount Pictures will release Heart of the Beast on September 25, 2026.
