Chelsea Handler hosted the Critics Choice Awards for the fourth year in a row on January 4 at Barker Hangar in Santa Monica. She brought her usual bold comedy. She made fun of her ex-boyfriend 50 Cent’s Netflix docuseries “Sean Combs: The Reckoning,” saying it shouldn’t be confused with the fake movie “50 Cent: Diddy Hunter.” The joke came after 50 Cent’s attention turned to Diddy’s son, which made her roast more interesting.
Handler roasted Leonardo DiCaprio for nearly missing the event after being “stuck on a boat in St. Barts” like the Titanic, but worse with Jeff Bezos aboard. She made fun of nominees like Sean Penn, who used Cialis for his role, invited Benicio del Toro to her hotel room, and called Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav a vampire in “Sinners.” Teyana Taylor, Gwyneth Paltrow, and Nicki Minaj were also targets in a busy opening act.
The joke is related to 50 Cent’s real-life fight with Sean “Diddy” Combs, which is the subject of his top-rated Netflix show that looks back at accusations against the mogul, who is facing jail time. Handler’s ex from more than ten years ago became the perfect subject for a funny story that mixed their past dating with current hip-hop drama.
