Chris Evans Says Captain America’s Return Will Be “Brutal” in ‘Avengers: Doomsday’

Chris Evans is pulling back the curtain on Steve Rogers’ comeback, and Marvel fans should brace themselves. The actor revealed that his character will face a particularly grueling storyline when the MCU brings Captain America back for ‘Avengers: Doomsday’, describing the arc as “brutal.”

Evans credited directors Joe and Anthony Russo with a track record of putting Rogers through the wringer both physically and emotionally. It’s a pattern the filmmakers appear ready to continue.

Evans’ return as Steve Rogers ranks among the biggest surprises surrounding ‘Doomsday’. The actor revealed that executives Kevin Feige and Lou D’Esposito pitched him roughly a dozen different ideas after ‘Endgame’, including storylines featuring Steve as Nomad. None quite clicked until the ‘Doomsday’ opportunity emerged as Marvel began reviving major legacy characters.

The big question now: how does Steve Rogers even exist after ‘Endgame’? The film appeared to give him a definitive ending, leaving fans to speculate whether ‘Doomsday’ will feature the same aged Rogers or explore an alternate version of the character.
