Fast & Furious TV Series Gets Peacock Green Light

Peacock has officially greenlit a new scripted Fast & Furious television series. The move marks a major expansion for one of Hollywood’s biggest action franchises. The show is currently targeting a 2028 premiere.

Vin Diesel first announced the television project during NBCUniversal’s upfront presentation in May 2026. Now, with Peacock officially ordering the series, the franchise is ready to shift gears and head into a new format.

From the Big Screen to Streaming

For more than two decades, Fast & Furious has dominated the big screen. The franchise began as a street-racing story and gradually transformed into a global action phenomenon.

Now, television opens up new possibilities. The format can explore characters and storylines over multiple episodes instead of squeezing everything into a single movie.

However, the plot is still being kept secret. Peacock has not confirmed whether Dominic Toretto will be at the center of the story. The show could also introduce a completely new group of characters within the same universe.

A Powerhouse Creative Team

Vin Diesel will executive produce the series. He will work alongside Sam Vincent of One Race, Neal H. Moritz and Pavun Shetty of Original Film, Jeff Kirschenbaum, and Chris Morgan.

Meanwhile, Mike Daniels and Wolfe Coleman will lead the creative side. They are attached as co-showrunners, writers of the pilot and executive producers.

The duo brings television experience to the project. Their credits include shows such as Sons of Anarchy, Shades of Blue and 9-1-1: Lone Star.

As a result, their experience could help the franchise make a smooth transition from blockbuster movies to episodic storytelling.

What Will the New Series Be About?

For now, Peacock is keeping the details under wraps. The streamer has not revealed the official title, storyline, cast or episode count.

Still, the Fast & Furious universe offers plenty of material. Over the years, the franchise has introduced international locations, rival crews, criminal organizations, law enforcement agencies and racing communities.

Therefore, the series has plenty of options. It could explore familiar characters or build an entirely new story within the established universe.

The biggest question, however, remains the cast. Will popular characters from the movies return? Or will Peacock introduce a fresh ensemble? So far, no major casting announcements have been made.

Fast & Furious Has Been on TV Before

Interestingly, this isn’t the franchise’s first television experiment. Netflix previously released Fast & Furious: Spy Racers, an animated series that ran for six seasons from 2019 to 2021.

This time, however, the approach is different. Peacock is developing a live-action scripted series, making the project a significant expansion of the franchise.

The original The Fast and the Furious arrived in 2001. It introduced audiences to Dominic Toretto and Brian O’Conner and established the street-racing foundation of the franchise.

Since then, the movies have grown dramatically. Street races eventually gave way to elaborate heists, international missions and massive action set pieces.

Why 2028 Could Be a Big Year

Peacock is currently targeting 2028 for the television series. That timing could also connect with the next major theatrical chapter.

Fast Forever is scheduled to arrive in cinemas on March 17, 2028.

However, Peacock has not announced a specific premiere date for the TV series. It also remains unclear whether the show will directly connect to the events of Fast Forever.

Still, launching the series around the same period could keep the franchise in the spotlight across both streaming and theatrical platforms.

The Franchise Continues to Expand

The move to television highlights the remarkable evolution of Fast & Furious.

What started as a relatively straightforward story about street racing has become a massive entertainment franchise. It now includes feature films, spinoffs, animation, merchandise, theme-park attractions and a new streaming series.

Moreover, television offers a major storytelling advantage. Writers can spend more time developing characters, conflicts and relationships across multiple episodes.

That could give audiences a different side of the franchise. Instead of relying entirely on increasingly spectacular action sequences, the series could explore its characters and world in greater depth.

Expectations Will Be High

Of course, expectations surrounding the project will be significant. The Fast & Furious movies have developed a distinct identity over the years.

Cars, action, family and spectacle remain central to the franchise. Therefore, the new series will have to find its own balance while still feeling connected to the world fans know.

At the same time, the television format could allow the franchise to experiment with new characters and storylines.

What We Know So Far

For now, several key details have been confirmed. Peacock has ordered the scripted series, while Vin Diesel will serve as an executive producer.

Mike Daniels and Wolfe Coleman are also attached as co-showrunners and executive producers. Meanwhile, the show is targeting a 2028 premiere.

However, plenty remains unknown. Peacock has yet to reveal the official title, cast, plot details or exact release date.

As production moves forward, more information is expected to emerge.

For now, one thing is clear: the Fast & Furious universe is shifting into a new gear—and this time, it’s heading to television.
