Nirvanna the Band

Matt Johnson and Jay McCarrol play Toronto musicians who want to play at the famous Rivoli club so badly that they can’t stop thinking about it. Their crazy plan goes wrong, and they end up back in 2008 in a silly RV time machine powered by old Orbitz drinks. The mockumentary mixes footage from old web series with new stunts, like jumping off the CN Tower and meeting people on the street without a script.

A “patience-testing” Canadian mockumentary that’s very local and full of Toronto-specific jokes that only locals will get. Variety says that the two went to great lengths to make a renegade comedy about friendship in the face of breaking bonds, using 17 years of footage. Some people say that the lack of original songs is a small flaw, even though the songs are technically creative.

Matt Johnson (BlackBerry) directed the movie, which will only be shown in a few US theaters on February 13, 2026. It adds to the cult Viceland series with improv-style pranks that were filmed without permission to make them seem more real. Expect Sacha Baron Cohen-style humor in silly, heartfelt activities.
