Prime Video has canceled Kevin, the adult animated comedy co-created by and starring Aubrey Plaza, ending the show after just one season. Plaza announced the news herself on social media, thanking viewers and the cast and crew involved in the project.
Prime Video has canceled Aubrey Plaza’s animated comedy Kevin after one season. The actress shared her disappointment and reflected on how streaming platforms rarely give shows time to grow.
The actress said she was disappointed by the decision, noting that the team believed the show was just hitting its stride. Plaza drew a comparison to her early experience on Parks and Recreation, which struggled in its initial ratings on NBC before the network gave it room to grow. She suggested that today’s streaming platforms are far less patient with new series than traditional networks once were, though she remains optimistic that Kevin could find a home elsewhere down the line.
Kevin, created by Plaza and Joe Wengert, debuted on Prime Video in April 2026 as a comedy about a neurotic house cat named Kevin—voiced by Jason Schwartzman—whose life takes a turn when his owners split up. The cat ends up in an animal rescue center in Queens, where he meets an assortment of quirky animals who help him work through questions of identity, friendship and belonging.
The show boasted an impressive roster of voice talent, including Whoopi Goldberg, Amy Sedaris, John Waters and Aparna Nancherla, with guest appearances from Quinta Brunson, Patti LuPone, Tig Notaro and others. Despite positive reviews and a dedicated fan following, the series couldn’t secure a second season.
Plaza’s public response has reignited the conversation about the difficulties facing original animated shows on streaming platforms, where even well-reviewed series often don’t make it past their first season. The eight episodes of Kevin are still available to stream on Prime Video.
