Rosario Dawson’s Spider-Man Cameo Hit the Cutting Room Floor

Rosario Dawson had an awkward revelation at a recent fan panel: she filmed a scene for Marvel’s ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ that never made it to theaters.

The actress spilled the beans while appearing at GalaxyCon in Raleigh, North Carolina, alongside fellow Marvel actor Vincent D’Onofrio. When asked which superhero she’d like to work with, Dawson caught everyone off guard with her answer: she already had.

“I even shot the scene in the new Spider-Man movie, but I got cut out,” she told the crowd.

Dawson said she was genuinely excited about the gig, especially given her deep roots in the Marvel universe. But somewhere in post-production, her moment ended up on the editing room floor.

The disappointment came with a side of dark humor. She joked about telling her mother the news though her mom seemed less concerned about the cut itself and more upset that Dawson wouldn’t be able to post behind-the-scenes photos from the set anymore.

Dawson’s connection to Marvel runs deep. She’s best known for playing Claire Temple across Marvel’s Netflix shows, starting with ‘Daredevil’ in 2015. The character became a fan favorite, popping up in ‘Jessica Jones’, ‘Luke Cage’, ‘Iron Fist’, and ‘The Defenders’.

As Marvel’s Netflix characters continue bleeding into the MCU proper, Dawson hasn’t given up hope of bringing Claire back. She’s expressed interest in reprising the role, especially as characters like Matt Murdock and Wilson Fisk have already made the leap to the wider universe.

There’s another layer to this one too. Dawson’s uncle is a comic book artist, and Spider-Man was the first character he ever learned to draw. Add to that the fact that she grew up near PS19 on New York’s Lower East Side—the exact school young Peter Parker attends in the comics and a Spider-Man appearance held real personal weight.

For now, Dawson’s deleted scene remains a mystery. There’s always a chance it could surface as bonus material down the line, though Marvel hasn’t indicated any plans to release it.

In the meantime, Dawson’s keeping the faith that Claire Temple’s story in the MCU isn’t over. As the universe keeps expanding, there’s plenty of room for her character to resurface cut scene or no cut scene.
