Tony Amatullo, a veteran film and television producer who helped bring beloved 1980s classics to the screen, died on May 3, 2026. He was 76.
He died at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in Manhattan from acute myeloid leukemia, which was diagnosed in August 2025.
Mr. Amatullo’s career spanned decades, beginning as a location manager on iconic films including “The Goonies” (1985) and “The Color Purple,” where he oversaw the intricate logistics of on-set production. He later moved into television, working as an associate producer on Emmy-winning hits like “Fame,” “Miami Vice,” “ER,” and “The West Wing.” At Warner Bros., he climbed the ranks to become VP of production, where he contributed to projects including “2 Days in the Valley.”
In his later years, he served as executive producer on “Beverly Hills Pawn” in 2013.
Mr. Amatullo is survived by his wife, Mariana Victoria, whom he met on a tour bus in Japan, and two sons, Nico and Leonardo. Nico confirmed his father’s death.
His passing marks the loss of a key behind-the-scenes figure in Hollywood, whose influence shaped some of the entertainment industry’s most beloved films and television series.
