Get excited for the special prequel episode of Adults, diving into Paul Baker's backstory before season two premieres.
Called “Marathon Day,” the episode hits screens on July 31 and will bridge the gap between Season 1 and the upcoming second season. It introduces the core friend group at the heart of the show while zeroing in on Paul Baker, portrayed by Jack Innanen, and how he became the quirky character audiences have grown attached to.
FX says the special episode works on two levels—it serves as a jumping-off point for newcomers but also gives longtime viewers a chance to see their favorite characters in a new light through an extended character study.
Adults, which was created by Ben Kronengold and Rebecca Shaw, centers on a tight group of twenty-somethings figuring out life in New York City. The ensemble features Malik Elassal, Lucy Freyer, Jack Innanen, Amita Rao and Owen Thiele.
The timing of “Marathon Day” is no accident. By releasing the prequel just weeks before Season 2 premieres, FX is building momentum and giving viewers fresh context on the characters and their early dynamic before the next chapter kicks off.
Expect more character development, backstory details, and the offbeat humor that’s made Adults one of the standout comedies in recent memory.
