Hollywood’s battle over artificial intelligence is entering a new phase. AI-generated “actor” Tilly Norwood is set to lead her first feature film, raising fresh concerns about AI’s growing role in the entertainment industry.
AI-generated performer Tilly Norwood will make her feature film debut in Misaligned, a hybrid AI-human production from Particle6 that is reigniting debate over AI in Hollywood.
London-based AI studio Particle6 has announced Misaligned, a coming-of-age comedy-drama that marks Tilly’s feature debut. The company describes the project as a “hybrid production” that brings together filmmakers and AI specialists to explore the future of storytelling.
The story unfolds in the fictional “Tillyverse,” a digital world where Tilly exists without a physical body, childhood or memories. Her journey begins after she meets a rogue bot from the dark web. The encounter sparks questions about her programmed existence. As Tilly becomes more self-aware, she grapples with identity, fame and what it means to be created from humanity’s collective knowledge.
Particle6 founder Eline van der Velden said the film blends comedy with deeper themes.
“The film will absolutely be funny, chaotic and self-aware—very Tilly.”
She added that Misaligned also explores identity, performance and society’s fears about artificial intelligence.
Although Tilly is AI-generated, Particle6 says humans remain at the heart of the production. Writers, directors, editors and other creative professionals will work alongside AI experts throughout the filmmaking process.
Van der Velden argued that AI should enhance creativity rather than replace it.
“Our work this year has proven something we suspected all along. AI can support premium narrative filmmaking, but only with substantial amounts of human craft, skill, judgement and time.”
The company has also retrained more than 30 employees to work with AI-assisted production tools.
Tilly Norwood first drew attention in 2025 when Particle6 introduced her as a virtual performer that could sign with talent agencies. The announcement quickly sparked backlash across Hollywood.
SAG-AFTRA criticized the project, arguing that AI performers rely on actors’ work without proper consent or compensation. The union also warned studios about their contractual responsibilities when using synthetic performers.
Many actors have voiced broader concerns. They question whether audiences will embrace AI-generated stars and worry about the long-term impact on acting careers.
Whether Misaligned becomes a breakthrough for AI-assisted filmmaking or deepens Hollywood’s AI divide remains to be seen. For now, the film stands as one of the industry’s boldest attempts to put an AI-generated character at the center of a feature film. It also adds another chapter to the ongoing debate over artificial intelligence and the future of cinema.
