Amal Sehrawat on the Changing Entertainment Industry

As the entertainment landscape continues to evolve, actor Amal Sehrawat remains confident about one thing: good storytelling will always matter.

Technology, platforms and viewing habits may change. However, audiences will continue to look for authentic stories and strong performances.

“Good stories and good actors will always remain at the heart of the industry,” Amal says.

The Entertainment Industry Is Becoming More Content-Driven

The way audiences consume entertainment has changed dramatically. Moreover, Amal expects this transformation to continue over the next five years.

According to the actor, content will become even more important. Audiences today have access to films and shows from across the world. As a result, they are also becoming more aware and selective.

“I think audiences today are more informed and exposed to cinema from different countries and cultures,” he explains.

Therefore, viewers now expect stronger stories, memorable performances and authentic characters.

At the same time, technology will continue to influence the industry. However, Amal believes it will always support the story rather than replace it.

“Technology will definitely play a bigger role, but good stories and good actors will always remain at the heart,” he says.

Amal Sehrawat Doesn’t Want to Limit Himself

When it comes to choosing between films, television and digital projects, Amal prefers to keep his options open.

“I wouldn’t really like to restrict myself to one medium,” he shares.

For him, the role and story are more important than the platform. Whether it is a film, television show or web series, he wants to focus on the character.

Moreover, every medium offers a different learning experience. As the boundaries between platforms continue to blur, actors now have more opportunities to explore varied roles.

OTT Has Created More Opportunities for Actors

The rise of OTT has significantly changed the entertainment industry. More importantly, it has created space for characters that may not fit traditional definitions of a hero or heroine.

“OTT has opened up a lot of opportunities, especially for actors who may not fit into the conventional definition of a leading man or heroine,” Amal says.

As a result, performers can now explore layered characters and grey shades. Stories can also move away from familiar commercial formulas.

This shift has been particularly exciting for actors looking for challenging roles. Instead of being limited to conventional characters, they can experiment with more complex personalities.

Why Audiences Are Connecting With Web Series

Web series have also changed the way stories are told. One major advantage is the amount of time available to develop characters.

“I think it’s the freedom and depth of storytelling,” Amal explains.

Unlike films, series can take several episodes to explore relationships and conflicts. Therefore, audiences get more time to understand the characters.

Gradually, this creates a deeper emotional connection.

Besides that, streaming platforms offer convenience. Viewers can watch shows at their own pace and choose what they want to watch. Consequently, this flexibility has played a major role in changing viewing habits.

The Industry Is Becoming More Inclusive

Another important change is the growing focus on diversity and inclusion.

Amal believes audiences are becoming more accepting of different appearances, backgrounds and perspectives.

“Audiences are accepting different faces, body types, backgrounds and perspectives much more than before,” he says.

This change is opening doors for more performers. However, Amal also believes there is still plenty of room for improvement.

“We still have a long way to go,” he admits.

Nevertheless, he sees a gradual shift towards recognizing talent rather than simply following traditional ideas of what a hero or actor should look like.

Remakes and Sequels Need a Creative Purpose

Bollywood continues to explore remakes and sequels. However, Amal believes these projects need more than nostalgia to succeed.

“I think remakes and sequels can work when there is a genuine creative reason behind them,” he says.

According to him, simply recreating an earlier success may not be enough. Instead, filmmakers should bring something new to the story.

For instance, a fresh perspective or contemporary treatment can give an existing idea a new identity.

Therefore, familiar stories can still work when they offer audiences a different experience.

Strong Female Characters Are Long Overdue

Amal is also positive about the growing presence of strong female protagonists.

“I think it’s fantastic and long overdue. A good story shouldn’t be defined by gender,” he says.

For him, well-written female characters can make stories more realistic and engaging.

At the same time, he wants to see more well-developed characters for everyone. Rather than relying on stereotypes, stories should explore people with different personalities, emotions and experiences.

“Personally, I would love to see even more well-written characters for people of all genders rather than stories being built around stereotypes,” he adds.

Social Media Has Changed the Actor-Audience Connection

Social media has completely transformed the relationship between celebrities and their fans.

Today, audiences can see an actor’s personality, lifestyle and opinions beyond their on-screen work. Consequently, the connection between performers and viewers has become more direct.

However, Amal believes social media should not become more important than an actor’s craft.

“An actor’s work ultimately has to speak louder than social media numbers,” he says.

While followers and engagement can create opportunities, they cannot replace good performances. Ultimately, the work remains the most important measure of an actor’s journey.

Amal Sehrawat Wants More Rooted Stories

Looking ahead, Amal hopes Indian entertainment explores stories that feel real and relatable.

“I would love to see more stories that feel real and rooted but are still entertaining,” he says.

According to the actor, India has countless stories that remain unexplored.

These include human relationships, real-life achievers, unconventional personalities and different aspects of Indian society.

Moreover, such stories can offer audiences something fresh while remaining emotionally relatable.

The Future Belongs to Meaningful Entertainment

For Amal Sehrawat, the future of entertainment lies in finding the right balance.

Stories should make audiences feel something. At the same time, they should remain engaging and entertaining.

As technology evolves and new platforms emerge, the industry will continue to change. Yet, the emotional power of a good story is unlikely to disappear.

For Amal, that is the real heart of entertainment.
