The entertainment industry has changed dramatically over the past few years. Today, OTT platforms, digital content and social media have created more opportunities than ever before. However, actor Chaitali Kohli believes that building a successful acting career is still as challenging as ever.
Known for her work in The Crew, Chaitali says a great physique may help actors grab attention initially. However, she believes talent, discipline and consistency are what truly ensure long-term success.
More Platforms Have Also Increased Competition
The rise of OTT platforms, web series, television shows and digital content has transformed the entertainment landscape. As a result, actors now have more avenues to showcase their talent.
However, Chaitali points out that the number of aspiring actors has also grown significantly. Consequently, competition has become much tougher.
“The number of platforms has definitely increased, which is a great thing because there are more stories being told than ever before. But at the same time, the number of aspiring actors has also grown tremendously. So while opportunities have expanded, so has the competition.”
She further explains that talent alone is not enough. Instead, timing, the right project and the right creative team also play an important role in an actor’s journey.
Consistency Is the Real Success Formula
Unlike many other professions, acting does not offer guaranteed results. Rejections are common, and success often takes years to achieve.
Therefore, Chaitali believes consistency is the biggest strength an actor can have.
She says every audition, workshop and project contributes to growth, even if success does not come immediately.
“Every audition, every workshop and every project helps you move forward, even if success doesn’t happen overnight.”
According to her, aspiring actors should focus on improving their craft instead of chasing instant fame. Eventually, persistence pays off.
Expectations From Actors Are Higher Than Ever
Many people believe acting opportunities have reduced. However, Chaitali disagrees with that perception.
Instead, she believes the industry’s expectations have evolved.
Today, actors are expected to be versatile, physically fit, camera-ready and constantly improving their skills. As audiences become more demanding, performers must continue adapting to changing trends.
“I think it’s more accurate to say there are more actors than ever before. Opportunities have actually increased with the rise of OTT platforms and digital content, but expectations have also become much higher.”
She adds that versatility has become one of the most valuable qualities for any actor hoping to build a lasting career.
Talent Will Always Outshine Looks
Speaking about the popular saying that “every second person in the gym wants to become an actor,” Chaitali admits there is some truth to it.
After all, fitness has become an important part of the profession. Nevertheless, she insists that appearance alone cannot sustain an acting career.
“There may be some truth to it because fitness has become an important part of the profession. But acting is so much more than looking good.”
She further explains that while a good physique may create a strong first impression, it is talent that keeps audiences invested.
“A great physique might get you noticed initially, but what keeps you relevant is your talent, discipline, emotional depth and the ability to connect with an audience.”
According to Chaitali, acting is a lifelong craft. Therefore, continuous learning, emotional growth and adaptability are essential for long-term success.
Financial Stability Gives Creative Freedom
Chaitali also believes actors should never hesitate to build an additional source of income.
Since acting is unpredictable, financial security allows performers to make better career choices.
“I think there’s absolutely nothing wrong with having another source of income.”
She explains that financial independence gives actors the freedom to choose meaningful projects instead of accepting every offer out of necessity.
Furthermore, she believes having another career or business does not reduce an actor’s commitment. Instead, it reflects practical thinking and long-term planning.
