Charles Cioffi, Iconic ‘Shaft’ and ‘X-Files’ Actor, Dies at 90

Hollywood is mourning the loss of Charles Cioffi, the acclaimed character actor best known for his roles in Shaft, Klute, Get Christie Love!, and The X-Files. He was 90.

Cioffi died on May 22 at his home in Marina del Rey, California, from natural causes, according to his wife Anne. He is survived by his wife, two sons, nieces, and nephews.

The New York-born actor launched his career on the stage before making the move to film and television, where he became a familiar face in Hollywood productions spanning several decades.

Among his most notable roles was Lt. Vic Androzzi in the 1971 blaxploitation classic Shaft, and Peter Cable in the Oscar-winning drama Klute, also that same year. Throughout the 1970s, Cioffi established himself as a reliable character actor, appearing in the TV series Get Christie Love! as Lt. Matt Reardon from 1974 to 1975.

Later in his career, Cioffi brought his distinctive presence to the paranormal drama The X-Files, where he played the skeptical Section Chief Scott Blevins from 1993 to 1997, introducing himself to a new generation of viewers. His television credits also include appearances on Kojak, Frasier, Wings, NYPD Blue, Hawaii Five-O, Bonanza, and The A-Team.

Born October 31, 1935, in New York City, Cioffi’s everyman look and compelling performances left an enduring impression on the entertainment industry throughout his long career.
