“Comedy is a difficult job,” he says. “I do not like slapstick comedy; I prefer situational comedy.”
In Daadi Ki Shaadi, that philosophy is evident throughout the film. Instead of relying on loud jokes or over-the-top gags, the story lets everyday situations create the humor. As a result, the comedy feels fresh and relatable.
Why Jeevan Ahuja Makes People Laugh
Interestingly, Dutta’s character, Jeevan Ahuja, isn’t trying to be funny.
Instead, he is serious, frustrated, and often angry. Yet, it is these reactions that create the film’s funniest moments.
“My character, Jeevan Ahuja, is very serious, angry, and frustrated, but the situations are what make the audience laugh,” Dutta explains. “The more you let the situation drive the humor, the better it is.”
Consequently, viewers enjoy comedy that feels natural rather than manufactured.
Don’t Force the Funny
For Dutta, the biggest mistake an actor can make is trying too hard to be funny.
“If you start putting too much effort into trying to be funny, it no longer feels realistic,” he says.

“As an actor, whether it is an emotional scene or a light-hearted comic moment, you must not differentiate between them,” he explains.
“It is always better to concentrate on the scene, the story, and the journey of the character.”

For Dutta, acting is about reacting truthfully rather than performing mechanically.
Instead of forcing emotions, he allows the character to respond naturally to every situation.
“Instead of forcing an effort, I let the character flow naturally, as if the situation is happening to me in real life. You should never try to force a performance; just let it happen organically,” he says.
Ultimately, he believes authenticity is what audiences remember the most.
