Elizabeth Holmes Moving to Texas Halfway House in August 2027

Elizabeth Holmes, the disgraced Theranos founder, will trade federal prison for a halfway house next year. The former CEO is scheduled to transfer to the Austin Transitional Center in Del Valle, Texas, on August 23, 2027, according to a notification from the U.S. Department of Justice’s Victim Notification System.

The move marks a shift in Holmes’ confinement status as she continues serving time for her role in the blood-testing company’s massive fraud scheme. However, it doesn’t mean freedom is around the corner her projected federal release date remains February 22, 2030.

Holmes was convicted in 2022 on three counts of wire fraud and one count of conspiracy to commit wire fraud. She reported to federal prison in May 2023 to begin serving an 11-year-and-three-month sentence, which was later reduced to 10 years and three months.

The Federal Bureau of Prisons doesn’t typically detail individual confinement plans, but officials noted that facility assignments consider factors like security needs, supervision requirements, medical needs, and proximity to an inmate’s eventual release location.

A federal appeals court previously upheld Holmes’ convictions and a $452 million restitution order she shares with former Theranos executive Ramesh “Sunny” Balwani.

Holmes’ story refuses to fade from the public eye. The Hulu limited series The Dropout, which starred Amanda Seyfried as Holmes, brought her rise and fall to television audiences. Now, a new documentary called You Can See Everything, directed by Nathan Fielder and Lance Oppenheim, is set to premiere in theaters on October 16, 2026. The film features footage Holmes recorded before entering prison.

That timing means the Theranos saga will likely dominate headlines again just as Holmes prepares for her 2027 move to the halfway house. For now, Holmes remains at the Federal Prison Camp in Bryan, Texas.
